1. How can you know you have the engine speed and road speed to shift gears?
A When the engine is lugging.
B By shifting whenever you notice heavy smoke coming from the exhaust.
C By using the sound of the engine to know when to shift.

2. What is true about downshifting before you reach a long downhill grade?
A It helps prevent the brakes from overheating and losing braking power.
B It puts an extra burden on the brake system.
C Starting downhill in low gear increases the chance of picking up speed.

3. When should you downshift for a curve?
A Before entering the curve.
B Upon entering the curve.
C After entering the curve.

4. What is the purpose of brake retarders?
A To help slow down the vehicle and to reduce brake wear.
